Is it too late? [Ahadith]

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

أَفَرَأَيْتُمُ اللَّاتَ وَالْعُزَّى

وَمَنَاةَ الثَّالِثَةَ الْأُخْرَى

“So have you considered al-Lat and al-‘Uzza?
And Manat, the third – the other one?”
[Al-Quran – Surat An-Najm (The Star): 19-20]

حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي سُلَيْمَانُ، عَنْ ثَوْرِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ، عَنْ أَبِي الْغَيْثِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ـ رضى الله عنه ـ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ ‏ “‏ اجْتَنِبُوا الْمُوبِقَاتِ الشِّرْكُ بِاللَّهِ، وَالسِّحْرُ ‏

Narrated  Abdul Uzair Ibn ‘Abdullah.He said that he narrated from Sulaiman, who narrated from Thur Ibn Zaid, who narrated from his father Gaith,who narrated from Abu Huraira رضى الله عنه that Rasul Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم  said, “Avoid the Mubiqat, i.e., shirk and witchcraft.”

حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ بُكَيْرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ، عَنْ عُقَيْلٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي حُمَيْدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، أَنَّ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏ “‏ مَنْ حَلَفَ مِنْكُمْ فَقَالَ فِي حَلِفِهِ بِاللاَّتِ وَالْعُزَّى‏.‏ فَلْيَقُلْ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ‏.‏ وَمَنْ قَالَ لِصَاحِبِهِ تَعَالَ أُقَامِرْكَ‏.‏ فَلْيَتَصَدَّقْ ‏”‏‏.‏

 Narrated Yahya Bin Bukayr that he narrated from Al Layth, who narrated from ‘Aqeel, who narrated from Ibn Shihaab, who said that he narrated from Humayd Bin Abdur Rahman that Abu Hurayrah رضى الله عنه  narrated that Rasul Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم  said, “Whoever among you takes an oath wherein he says, ‘By Al-Lat and Al-`Uzza,’ names of two Idols worshipped by the Pagans, he should say, ‘None has the right to be worshipped but Allah; And whoever says to his friend, ‘Come, let me gamble with you ! He should give something in charity.”

وَحَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى، وَسَعِيدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ، وَقُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، كُلُّهُمْ عَنْ أَبِي عَوَانَةَ، – قَالَ يَحْيَى أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ، – عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏ “‏ يَهْرَمُ ابْنُ آدَمَ وَتَشِبُّ مِنْهُ اثْنَتَانِ الْحِرْصُ عَلَى الْمَالِ وَالْحِرْصُ عَلَى الْعُمُرِ ‏”‏ ‏‏‏.‏

Narrated Yahya bin Yahya, and Sa’eed bin Mansoor, and Qutaybah bin Sa’eed, all of them narrated from Abi ‘Awanah. Yahya said that Abu ‘Awanah narrated to us from Qatadah, who narrated from’Anas  رضى الله عنه , who said that ‘Rasul Allah  صلى الله عليه وسلم said: “The son of Adam grows old, but two (desires) in him remain young: desire for wealth and desire for life.”
